“Welcome to Chicas Tacos!”
Three times this week I was greeted by the awesome crew from Chicas Tacos. Not going to lie, it always caught me off-guard and kept thinking they were calling me chica – needless to say, it put a smile on my face.
Then again, everything about Chicas Tacos will make you smile. From the colorful, retro-diner style decor to the new vegan, non-GMO, uber fresh take on tacos, this place will easily win a spot on your top restaurants to hit up when visiting L.A.
Listen, I’ve had my fair share of tacos in the U.S. and I’m always skeptical to see how good or legit they will be – not because the recipes are complicated but because the ingredients tend to differ. Being close to the border makes it easy to visit Mexico for the OG deal, but I have to say Chicas Tacos surprised me. It looked too nice, too modern to taste that good, and yet they did.
The shredded beef barbacoa, chicken and fish tacos were amazing. I could explain just how good they are, but I think it’s best if you try them yourself – hint: think croutons. If meat’s not your thing, try the jackfruit or cauliflower and mushroom tacos with a bit of their green salsa. For sides, my favorites were chiles gueritos or “chiles blancos”, street corn and queso – real queso though. Don’t worry, there’s also vegan queso and many more options. Here’s their menu so you can start planning your visit this weekend. Oh, and by the way, they partnered with Caviar, Eat24, Postmates and they deliver. Convenient or dangerous?

Flour Power! We’re excited to announce that this Friday, November 2, we start serving Flour Tortillas! Select tacos will come standard on our delicious new hand pressed Flour Tortillas (but don’t let that stop you from ordering any of our tacos on flour). Life just doesn’t stop getting better at Chicas! 💃🏽
So who are the chicas?
You, me, your mom, niece, who knows. The owners of Chicas Tacos are actually men – chef Eduardo Ruiz and Chris Blanchard. Almost three years ago, Ruiz and Blanchard gave Downtown L.A. the gift of unique Mexican flavors. Last year, they hosted Baja Market L.A. An event where some of the greatest chefs from Mexico showcased their unique takes on traditional and not-so-traditional taco recipes like Pacifico bass tacos and “taco de lechon” with hints of mole – yumm.
It’s no secret that Baja’s vineyard region of Valle de Guadalupe is booming with great culinary talent and the fact that Chicas Tacos is creating events like Baja Market L.A. to show the many layers of the Mexican cuisine makes us very excited. Safe to say, we’re excited to see what they may be planning for this year! You should be too!
Have you been to Chicas Tacos in DTLA? If not, what’s your favorite taco spot in the downtown area? Share the goodness 😉
