Quiz Time! Latinx or Not?

Hey, I get it. We’ve all made that same mistake before where we mix up our Latinx and European/American celebrities. But sometimes, just because someone speaks Spanish doesn’t always mean they’re Latinx!

Take our quiz and see if you can figure out the difference. And what’s in it for guessing everything correctly on this quiz, you ask? Bathing yourself in celebrity know-it-all glory, of course.

Can you guess which of the below celebrity match ups is Latinx?

Answer: Shakira
Okay, I’ll admit it, this one is a pretty obvious freebie. I trust that everyone got this one right! Shakira is Colombian, and despite his success with “Despacito,” JBiebs is not so fluent in Spanish and grew up in Canada.

Answer: Edgar Ramirez
Antonio Banderas (who recently played Picasso in National Geographic’s limited series Genius) was born in Malaga, Spain.

Answer: Cote de Pablo
Cote is Chilean-American who was born in Santiago before moving to the US during her childhood. Penelope Cruz grew up in Alcobendas in Madrid, Spain.

Answer: Neither!
Ariana Grande may look Latinx, but she is in fact of New York-Italian descent. As for Nicole, she’s half Filipino with Ukrainian and Native Hawaiian ancestry.

Answer: Karla Souza
Our girl Karla aka Laura Castillo from How to Get Away with Murder grew up in Mexico City and was raised by a Mexican mother and Chilean father. As for Shay, she is of Filipino, Irish, and Scottish descent.

Answer: Ricky Martin
They may both be considered kings of Latin pop, but they are not from the same country. Enrique is Spanish, and grew up in Madrid, Spain. Ricky is Puerto Rican.

Answer: Tyler Posey
Teen Wolf heartthrob Tyler Posey grew up in America, but is half Mexican because of his mother. Darren Criss’s father is a mix of English, German, and Irish ancestry while his mother is a native of the Philippines.

Answer: Both!
Sara is from Mazatlán, Mexico and, fun fact, graduated from the prestigious Juilliard School. Cardi B was raised in the Bronx by a Dominican father and a Trinidadian mother.
